Learning Opportunities


The Alpha Epsilon Delta Organization at UH is sharing this opportunity to participate in a program called Cougar Cognitive Health Initiative (Cougar CHAIN). They are recruiting up to 40 student volunteers to learn the cognitive assessment skills and help Vietnamese American seniors improve their health literacy along with other local healthcare professionals. Recruited student volunteers will be trained to perform cognitive assessment as well as coming with us to health fairs and help Vietnamese seniors to do these assessments. Responsibilities and other info can be found in the flyer attached below. The Cougar CHAIN activities will start in late February/early March through the year 2023. Requirements:

  • UH undergraduate students with health-related major or career paths. Juniors and seniors preferred) 
  • Good academic standing (unofficial transcript required)
  • Have a reliable car or transportation within Houston (carpool can be provided if living on campus)
  • Bilingual in Vietnamese and English is helpful but not required

The Volunteers Around the World Global Health Alliances Organization (VAW Global Health Alliances) is hosting an opportunity for a summer 2023 Medical Internship abroad through this program. Through the Medical Outreach program, interns learn about healthcare in a global context and disease diagnosis, treatment courses, and clinic operations through shadowing, measuring vital signs, and learning about basic pharmacology — all under the direct supervision of experienced local physicians and staff. You will also have free time to travel in the host country, experience a new culture and build amazing relationships. This opportunity is open to all majors and non-UH students. They are looking for committed participants who will go above and beyond to make this a memorable experience for everyone involved.
